TADLEY Calleva moved to the top of the Wessex League Division One table with a hard-fought 3-1 victory away at New Milton Town on Saturday.

Jason Kingston gave the visitors the lead on 14 minutes, his shot from the edge of the area slipping through the hands of the New Milton goalkeeper, but the hosts levelled from a free-kick just three minutes later.

There was no further scoring in the first half, but Tadley were the better side after the break and finally got their reward with 15 minutes to go, Brett Denham taking advantage of a mix-up between the home goalkeeper and one of his defenders.

New Milton pressed for an equaliser but they were unable to find it and the visitors hit them on the break, Denham running through to complete Tadley’s seventh win in eight league games.

The result saw them go above Fleet Spurs and top of the table. They will be looking to maintain their unbeaten league record on Saturday, when they travel to sixth-placed Cowes Sports.
