WHITCHURCH United maintained their unbeaten record in the Wessex League Premier Division with a 3-1 victory over visiting Newport (IOW) on Saturday.
Danny Phillips got the hosts off to the best possible start, beating the Newport goalkeeper at his near post, but the Jam Boys were unable to add to their lead before half-time.
The lead was doubled in the early stages of the second half, good play from Adam Battison and Jack McCarthy setting up Josh Harfield to score from the edge of the area.
Josh Green then converted from the penalty spot after Jack Garner was brought down in the area and the only stain on an otherwise outstanding performance came in stoppage time, when the visitors grabbed a consolation goal.
Whitchurch have a busy week coming up. They host league leaders Petersfield Town tomorrow, before away games against local rivals Winchester City and Alresford Town on Saturday and Tuesday respectively.
