WHITCHURCH United’s FA Vase dream is over for another year after they lost 3-2 in extra-time away at Chippenham Park on Sunday.

Goals from Ryan Lambert and Jamie Mansell had Whitchurch 2-1 up at half-time, but the hosts levelled in the second half and grabbed a winner in extra-time.

The defeat ended the Jam Boys’ run of eight successive victories, with their eighth being a 3-2 win over visiting Horndean last Wednesday.

Mansell opened the scoring in the early stages but the visitors scored either side of half-time to take the lead. Jack Garner made the most of a defensive error to level the scores and Mansell grabbed the winner thanks to another mistake in the Horndean defence.

Whitchurch are fourth in the Wessex League Premier Division, with games in hand over the sides around them. They have a big week coming up though, with a home game against third-placed Newport (IOW) on Saturday followed by a visit from second-placed Petersfield Town next Wednesday.
