WHITCHURCH United booked their place in the next round of the FA Vase, thanks to a 3-2 win away at Almondsby UWE.

The home side were quick out of the blocks, as in the third minute they scored taking advantage of a bad back pass.

The Jam Boys hit back four minutes later, as Adam Pearson header hit the post from one corner and from the next Scott Hassell slotted home.

Whitchurch took the lead midway through the first-half, as Jack McCarthy’s pass sent Josh Green clear and his cross was converted by Josh Hartfield.

The second-half started like the first with an early goal for the home side to make it 2-2.

The visitors responded as Ryan Lambert hit the angle of the post and bar and with 15 minutes left Whitchurch scored the winner from the penalty spot.

This came after Danny Phillips’ through ball found Jamie Mansell in the area and he was brought down.

Green from the spot gave the home goalkeeper no chance and this booked his side a trip to Chippenham Park in the next round.

They share their ground with Southern League side Chippenham Town and they have a league game on Saturday October 4, it is likely to be played on the day after.

This weekend, Whitchurch return to Wessex League Premier Division action, when they entertain mid-table Hamworthy United.

Then on Tuesday night, they have a short trip to Andover for their Hampshire Senior Cup second round tie.
