THE wet weather got one over on the football programme again, with most games due to contested by north Hampshire teams being postponed over the weekend.

Basingstoke Town's trip to Hayes and Yeading United was called off almost 24 hours in advance due to a waterlogged pitch at Woking's Kingfield Stadium, where Hayes play their home games.

Finding a new date for the match may prove difficult as there does not appear to be a midweek date that both sides can play on at present.

Hartley Wintney FC are also facing a fixture backlog as their trip to Chessington and Hook in the Combined Counties League Premier Division was postponed. The village side will be hoping that their trip to Molesey, which is due to take place tomorrow night, survives the weather.

Whitchurch United saw their home game against Moneyfields in the Wessex League Premier Division washed out. They are due to take on Petersfield Town in the semi-finals of the Wessex League Cup tomorrow night.

Tadley Calleva had their trip to US Portsmouth wiped out in Wessex League Division One.

Overton United did manage to play, beating hosts Sway 4-1 to reach the semi-finals of the Hampshire Intermediate Cup.

However, Hampshire Premier League rivals AFC Aldermaston had another two games postponed. They were due to host Winchester Castle last Wednesday before travelling to Hedge End on Saturday - but both matches were wiped out.

They are now due to host Colden Common on Wednesday night, before hosting Headley United on Saturday.

Basingstoke Town Ladies' trip to Stony Stratford in the Southern League Cup also fell foul of the weather yesterday. They are due to host Premier League Southern Division outfit Portsmouth FC Ladies in the Hampshire Cup on Wednesday night before making the short trip to Aldershot Town on Sunday.

All games in both the Basingstoke and District Saturday League and the Basingstoke and District Sunday League were wiped out.
