JAAP Stam believes the international break has come at the right time for Reading FC as a number of injured players continue their rehab.

A string of Royals players have been struck down with injuries this season, forcing Stam to battle on with a depleted squad.

The likes of Yann Kermorgant, Stephen Quinn, Garath McCleary and Joseph Mendes have all had operations since the start of pre-season, while Jordan Obita has been ruled out for the remainder of the campaign following knee surgery last month.

To add to Stam’s problems, a host of other players have picked up knocks which have kept them out of the side.

And while Royals built up some much-needed momentum with successive wins against Derby County and Nottingham Forest, Stam is happy to take a break from Championship action.

“If you're winning a couple of games in a row, you want to keep on playing, keep that momentum going,” he said.

“But with the injuries we've got, now we have some time to work on getting some of those players back.

"The players can have a couple of days off, some will go away with their countries, others who are in we will work with within the system and the injured players we'll work with to try and get them fitter.”

Reading striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson could make his injury return against his former club Wolves.

Joey van den Berg, Liam Kelly and Sam Smith were all forced to miss last weekend's 4-2 win at Pride Park after picking up recent knocks.

That day Stam was also without the services of Tiago Ilori (head), Jon Dadi Bodvarsson (calf), George Evans (thigh), Callum Harriott (hamstring), Tennai Watson (hamstring), McCleary (groin), Obita (knee), Quinn (knee) and Mendes (knee).

But Van den Berg, Bodvarsson, Smith, Ilori and Kelly could all be fit before Royals return to action on November 18 with a mouthwatering clash against leaders Wolves at Madesjki Stadium.

Stam added: "I saw Wolves play recently, they are a very good side.

“They spent a lot of pounds in getting players in and they have got a certain physique - a very high work rate as a team combined with quality.

“We know they will make it difficult for every team they play against, that's why they're top of the table.

"So we're going to be facing a very good team, but we're a good team as well. We've got the confidence in ourselves in what we can do and hopefully we can do well.”
