READING recorded their first win in five matches in the Championship, after a late stunning Ola John goal secured a 1-0 victory away at Bolton Wanderers.

Royals made four changes to their last starting line-up before the international break, and started the match at the Macron Stadium the better.

The visitors had a glorious chance to take the lead midway through the first-half when Matej Vydra was brought down inside the Bolton penalty area, resulting in a straight red card for Wanderers man Rob Holding.

Vydra dusted himself down and stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick, but it was well saved by Bolton goalkeeper Ben Amos.

Reading had the lion’s share of possession for the remainder of the half though Bolton, fighting desperately hard against relegation this season, defended gallantly.

The best of the Royals chances fell to Vydra, however Amos covered his angles well to deny the Reading forward.

Reading continued to dictate the pace after the break with Yann Kermorgant heading wide of the Bolton goal and a Jordan Obita shot deflected narrowly over before the hour mark.

As chances continued to come and go for visitors, a Paul McShane header was fumbled against the post and Stephen Quinn had Amos beaten, but his effort thundered back off the upright.

The 440 travelling Reading fans had to wait until the final minute of normal time to celebrate a goal their side so richly deserved, a stunning late strike from John that will go down as a contender for Goal of the Month.

The win sees Reading leapfrog three clubs into 13th position in the Championship table ahead of a visit to Madejski Stadium from Nottingham Forest on Tuesday evening (8pm).
