READING have completed their third signing of the week, bringing in defender Paul McShane on a free transfer.
Like Stephen Quinn, who joined the Royals on Tuesday, McShane spent last season in the Premier League with Hull City.
The 29-year-old, who began his career at Manchester United and has also played for West Bromwich Albion and Sunderland, has signed a three-year deal at the Madejski Stadium after his Hull contract expired.
Reading manager Steve Clarke said: "Even before Alex Pearce chose to leave the club I had decided that another experienced central defender was nedded for this season.
"I was always monitoring the situation with Paul and I'm pleased we managed to get the deal completed. As well as his obvious talents as an experienced defender who is aggressive both in the air and on the ground, we felt that he was a good character to bring into our squad.
"He has a winning mentality and it will be good for our two young central defenders, Michael Hector and Jake Cooper, to train and play alongside Paul."
