READING will travel to Essex to face Colchester United in the opening round of next season’s Capital One Cup.
The draw for the first round of the League Cup took place this morning and the Royals’ ball was the last one out of the bag, drawn alongside League One outfit Colchester.
The Essex side finished 19th in their division last season, while FA Cup semi-finalists Reading will be looking for another impressive cup run.
The match will be played at the Colchester Community Stadium on the week beginning August 10, sandwiched between Reading’s opening two Championship fixtures.
Elsewhere in the draw, Yeovil and Accrington Stanley have been handed plum ties, drawn at home to Queens Park Rangers and Hull City respectively. Sheffield United, who are now managed by former Reading boss Nigel Adkins, have been handed a trip to Morecambe.
Both the Premier League and Football League will release their fixture lists tomorrow morning.
