READING remain 10th in the Championship table after playing out a goal-less draw away at Leeds United last night.

The Royals were the better side throughout the 90 minutes but were unable to find a way past Leeds goalkeeper Marco Silvestri.

Nick Blackman went close in the first half, seeing his low shot pushed away by the ’keeper, while Giuseppe Bellusi had the hosts’ best chance before the break, firing a free-kick narrowly over.

Glenn Murray went closest to breaking the deadlock in the second half, but his header was blocked by Silvestri. Ex-Reading striker Billy Sharp had Leeds’ only shot on target with five minutes to go, but his low drive was held by Reading goalkeeper Adam Federici.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: “On reflection, we’ve kept a good clean sheet after conceding three at the weekend, but we’ve had enough opportunities and penalty shouts to win the game.

“It’s a difficult place to come to. They’ve won four out of five at home and it was their first game at home for the new manager, so we knew it would be a challenge. But we had a fair amount of possession, put some good crosses in and their ’keeper’s made some really good saves.”

Reading are in action again on Saturday, when they travel to Brentford.

Whitchurch United and Overton United were also in action last night, with both picking up 3-2 wins on the road.

Whitchurch won 3-2 at Horndean in the Wessex League Premier Division, a result that leaves them third in the table going into their FA Vase trip to Chippenham Park on Saturday.

Overton were 3-2 victors away at Locks Heath in the Hampshire Premier League.
