READING’S four game winning streak came to an end, as they lost 1-0 at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship.

The result saw the Royals slide out of the play-off places to tenth stop, thanks to Stevie May’s winner seven minutes from time, which moved the Owls into the play-off places.

The visitors should have led after 32 minutes, but Glenn Murray’s first-half penalty was saved by the legs of Wednesday goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

This was after Murray was brought down in the box by midfielder Giles Coke.

After the break, Murray saw a looping header hit the bar, before May’s deflected free-kick won the match.

Reading boss Nigel Adkins said: “Mikkel Andersen made his debut in goal because Feds (Adam Federici) was just feeling his calf. He had one shot on target to deal with and unfortunately it was deflected past him for the winner.

On Tuesday night, the Royals are in League Cup action, away at Championship rivals Derby County.
