READING slipped out of the Championship play-offs, after they suffered a 3-0 defeat at promotion rivals Wigan.

The home side were the better team from the start, and Jordi Gomez gave them the lead after 30 minutes.

Martyn Waghorn netted his own rebound just before the break to make it 2-0, and then Callum McManaman made sure of the points for the home side.

Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: “Wigan are the best team we have played this season.”

The result saw the Royals slip to seventh in the table, one point behind Brighton.

The Seagulls can extend their advantage over Reading to four points, if they win against visiting Blackpool tomorrow afternoon.

Meanwhile, Reading are next in action on Tuesday night (kick-off) with a home game against mid-table Middlesbrough.
