READING captain Jobi McAnuff scored a brace to help his side win 2-1 at Birmingham City, and climb back into the Championship play-off places.
This was after sixth placed Nottingham Forest were soundly beaten 5-0 by Derby County.
McAnuff opened the scoring against the run of play after 39 minutes, as he converted a cross from Royston Drenthe.
Birmingham levelled by the break after Callum Reilly was tripped by Kaspars Gorkss, and Paul Caddis put away the spot kick.
McAnuff scored the winner eight minutes from time as he put away a cross from Chris Gunter.
Reading manager Nigel Adkins said: “They were two excellent goals and the win keeps us in the play-off race.”
The Royals will hope to build on the victory on Tuesday night, when they entertain bottom side Barnsley (kick-off 8pm).
