OVERTON United get their Hampshire Premier League campaign under way with a tough trip to Baffins Milton Rovers on Saturday.

Manager Titch Bloomfield has managed to hold on to all of the players who took Overton to fifth place in the table last season and is hoping to lead his side to an even higher finish this time around.

“Our aim is to improve on last year,” he said. “We had a good season last time around and if we can improve on that, I would be really pleased.”

Overton have a difficult start, travelling to Baffins Milton Rovers, who finished above them last season, on the opening day. In addition, their first eight games will all be played on the road as they share their ground with the village cricket club.

“Baffins are one of the sides who finished above us last season and I am expecting a really tough game at their place,” Bloomfield added. “If we don’t pick up many points in the away games, we will be playing catch-up, but if we can get 12 or 15 points from the first eight games, we will be in a good position.”

Overton are in action again on Tuesday, travelling to Otterbourne.

They are the only north Hampshire side in the Hampshire Premier League this season, as AFC Aldermaston have switched to the Thames Valley League Premier Division.
