AFC Aldermaston got instant revenge on Liphook United, knocking them out of the Hampshire Premier League Cup a week after losing 5-1 in a league match.

Visiting Aldermaston were the better side in the first half and took a deserved lead on 35 minutes. An excellent team move ended with Michael Porter playing a one-two with Kai Parton-Edey before slotting home to open the scoring.

Liphook looked to attack in the second half but it was Aldermaston who got the important second goal, Martin King heading home a Chris Allen corner at the near post.

The hosts did pull a goal back in the final minutes but were unable to get on terms as Aldermaston secured a home tie against high-flying Baffins Milton Rovers in the next round.

Aldermaston manager, Terry Rooney, said: “I changed a few things from the previous week, with the aim for us to be a bit more solid than we had been in that game.

“The attitude of the players was the main difference though. They looked far more composed and confident.”

Next up for Rooney’s men is a home game against bottom-of-the-table Bishops Waltham Town on Saturday.

“We cannot afford to be complacent because if we could put three wins together we would make a real move up the table,” the Aldermaston boss added. “We are looking forward to Saturday and want to take our form from last week into that game.”
