AFC Berg won their first trophy of the season as the Division Two outfit beat Div One side Twentyten in the Peter Raynbird Cup final at the Winklebury Football Complex last Saturday.

It was no surprise when Twentyten took a 12th minute lead after a Lucas Pickett corner was not cleared well and it came back in for Joe Osborne to beat keeper Torren Kirrage.

Pickett had a chance for their second in a one on one with Kirrage who made a comfortable save.

Berg staged a few attacks and in the 26th minute they equalised when a long free-kick taken by Harry Rudge, was met with a low header from Mark Howell that found the far corner of the net.

Twentyten came back strongly and Pickett fired a good chance over the bar and Osborne forced a save.

Berg then went in at half time 2-1 up when a brilliant volley on the turn from Lee Neal from 20 yards out, beat the helpless Harry Nash.

The second period started brightly, with Neal heading a chance over the bar from a Rudge free-kick and at the other end a good effort saw Osborne force a fine save from the goalkeeper.

Berg brought on Reece Chapman in the 79th minute and within 30 seconds of his introduction a low cross and from Kieran Alleyne was met by Chapman for a 3-1 lead.

In added time a late rally from Twentyten gave Berg a scare when a deflected shot from James Arnold flew past Kirrage, but order was restored when the Berg captain and man of the match captain Neal caught Nash off his line with a lofted shot from the half way line and it was game over.

The cup and awards was presented by the Basingstoke League president Peter Raynbird.
