SOMESAY went top of the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two after beating Chineham 2-0.

They are now a point clear of favourites for the title Sherborne Saints.

Hayden Chalker gave them the lead from a penalty after a Graham Jenkins foul in the box.

Before half time it became 2-0 after Joe Hodge chipped the goalkeeper.

Somesay had the chances to increase their lead when Hodge hit the post and shot over the bar in a one on one with goalkeeper Nick Tucker, who also pulled off another good save when Chalker was through.

Ricky Smith did have a chance for Chineham but shot wide, as Somesay were well deserved winners and could have had a more convincing victory.

Longdog Soldiers had their second victory of the season winning at AFC Aldermaston A 3-2.

Sam Trodd opened the scoring for them in the 25th minute from a well taken free-kick, but Aldermaston came back to level thorough Nick Stones with a glancing header.

Although they had dominated the first half, Longdog fell behind when Matt Haines made it 2-1.

They were not behind for long, Joe Oates sent a good ball through for Trodd to score his second.

Jake Barnes in the Longdog goal saved well to keep Longdog on level terms, when they went down to 10 men.

Then in the 85th minute, Longdog scored the winner as good play from Max Trodd led to Oates scoring the winner.
