TWENTYTEN suffered the heartbreak last Thursday as they lost 3-2 in a penalty shoot-out to Andover League side Broughton in the final of the North Hants May Cup.

It was the Basingstoke League side who went on the attack from the off and in the 10th minute Jake Tanner went past two men and forced a good save from goalkeeper Matt Casson.

Five minutes later, Twentyten took the lead. A free-kick taken by Charlie Manning was flicked on by the head of Christian Cox to Joe Hill who finished off from a close range.

Broughton equalised after 26 minutes, when a long shot from Shane Vidler caught goalkeeper Harry Nash off his line and nestled into the top corner. James Arnold had a good chance to regain the lead when he broke away from the half way line and then hit a weak shot at the goalie.

Joe Osborne was then unlucky after being put through by Hill. In the 40th minute Broughton took the lead. It was an unfortunate goal to concede and a controversial one.

Goalkeeper Nash picked up the ball just inside the penalty area when he had plenty of time to fly kick clear.

Referee Mick Walsh ruled it was a back pass and from the resulting indirect free kick he was beaten and the goalkeeper was also booked for protesting.

The Andover side had a lot of the ball but wasted chances in the second half, but in the 74th minute Twentyten drew level.

A free kick from Hill was half saved by the goalkeeper, the follow up effort from Jake Tanner was blocked on the line, but Tanner followed up to put away the rebound.

They pressed for the winner and it almost came on 90 minutes when a left footed effort from Hill went narrowly wide.

So penalties decided the outcome. Hill took the first and it was saved. Tanner made no mistake with the second, but Carl Pearson hit the post.

Jack Clarke converted to make it 2-2, but Oliver Wells converted his for Broughton and the need for their last kick was not necessary.

The Cup and awards were presented by Mick Davis, Chairman of the North Hants FA Divisional Association.
