RISING Sun DC were unable to hold on for a famous victory over Hungerford Town in the semi-finals of the Basingstoke Senior Cup.

A Ben Nicholls strike and Ben Vine’s fantastic free-kick had the Basingstoke and District Saturday League outfit 2-0 up against Southern League side Hungerford.

However, the game turned early in the second half, when Vine was shown a red card. Goals from Chris Passey and Connor Lynch saw them pull level, while Harry Goodger put them ahead with nine minutes to go.

Rising Sun were reduced to nine men with 10 minutes left, Jamie Smith receiving his marching orders, and Lynch scored twice more in the closing stages to complete his hat-trick and a 5-2 victory that sets up a final against Alton Town on May 6.

Rising Sun have the chance to win some silverware on Saturday, when they play Hook in the final of the Peter Raynbird Cup at Winklebury (6.30pm).
