SOLDIERS Return entertained Arms SMB last Sunday in the Andover Presidents Cup and in the opening 15 minutes found themselves a couple of goals down.

Matt Kelly pulled one back and Alex Izzo bundled in an equaliser, before Kelly got his second after a deep cross from Daniel Grimes for a 3-2 lead.

A penalty converted by the visitors took the game into extra time.

Substitute Adam Gibson put Soldiers ahead early in a goalmouth mêlée, but the visitors levelled again and, as Soldiers tired, grabbed two late goals to win the tie 6-4 after extra time.

Team FC reached their second cup final of the year with a dominant display against visitors Overton United in the Bernard Cornish Cup.

Team almost took an early lead when bomber No 9 Brendan Vickery raced through on goal but shot straight at the keeper.

Again Vickery collected a glorious Adam Everiss cross but couldn’t find the back of the net from 6 yards!

Eventually, Everiss raced down the left wing, driving the ball across goal into Ashley Williams‘ perfectly timed run, to slot home the opener. Everiss found Vickery again from a ball over the top, and Vickery lobbed the goalkeeper from 20 yards to make it 2-0.

Joe Richardson’s tricky footwork proved too hot to handle in midfield for Overton, with Jay Stephens having a solid game alongside.

Everiss provided the third with a lovely half valley from six yards.

Team FC’s back four couldn’t be penetrated and Brad Nicholson kept his first clean sheet in his last games.

It was a tight and goalless first half with few chances in the Division One match between Chineham and Bramley United.

In the second half, with the wind and sun in their favour, Nick Beschizza sent the ball out wide to Daryl Goater, who crossed to Matt Kempson to control and poke in with his left foot.

Daniel Greenwood then doubled the lead on the break. With 10 minutes to go, a Les Wood header got Bramley into the game at 2-1 but were unable to find the equaliser.

Hampshire Irons beat AFC Soldiers 5-2 and were in control after a Mike Pemberton’s run into six yard box and scuffed shot to Keiran Dent to score.

Then James McIntosh set up Dent to head in his second 2-0. Jordan Grant pulled off a pair of strong assists as first McIntosh netted and 17-year-old Afie Jones headed in his first for the club. Robert Chandler and Merson Webb scored Soldiers‘ goals.

An entertaining Division Two match as struggling Basingstoke Saints stood up well to their task against the strong division leaders North Warnborough Reserves.

Even when Saints went behind after just five minutes, to a penalty netted by Ryan Thorpe, they kept on playing and Ryan Webb got his reward with his first goal of the season with the outside of his boot from edge of box for 1-1.

In open play, Thorpe grabbed his second, then Keiron Munt on a run found Niall Day made it 3-1.

Saints did not let their heads down and won a penalty which Liam James tucked away before half-time.

There was no further score so Boro stay ahead of a crowded pack at the top of the division.

Kempshott took an early lead at Chineham Athletic when James Hudson was brought down in the box and Gideon Vallence converted from the spot.

Chineham replied with two goals before going down to ten men. Goals from Tom Mitchell and Jack Warwick restored the lead for Kempshott who saw out the game for a 3-2 victory.

UWS fell 2-0 behind to defensive errors after the first half against Camrose Social, then within five minutes of the second half, found themselves 3-0 down.

Twenty minutes later Chris Bayly crossed for Ryan Lupton to pick out a consolation. Mike Brodie, Matt Foreman and Ben Hobday scored for Camrose Social.
