CHAMPIONS Hook finished their Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One campaign on a high, beating bottom side Basingstoke Athletic 7-1.

Pete Silvester put them in front on nine minutes following a back pass, Then in the 16th minute a shot by Silvester was palmed out by the goalkeeper and Adam Arthurs put away the rebound from 15 yards out.

In the 38th minute there was a response from Athletic when Nathan Read found the bottom corner assisted by Paul Taylor, out of the reach of Jon Noakes, who drew the short straw to play in goal.

It was soon became 3-1 when Andy Parker scored with an 18 yard lob.

Hook netted a fourth through Dan Framp from Parker's cross.

The Hook goal of the season than followed thanks to a 30-yard rocket from James Neville.

Sam Barker scored number six from Arthurs' cross and the final goal was scored by Greg Archer, who normally plays in goal.

It was from a disputed penalty after Morgan Davies was fouled in the box.

Basingstoke Royals failed to fulfil their final fixture against Bounty United, as they could not raise a team.

Bounty will now receive the points. The unfortunate news from the Royals is they are withdrawing from the league next season.
