ONLY three Basingstoke and District League games survived the weather last weekend, with Basingstoke Labour Club switching their game from Brighton Hill as they hired the all weather pitch at Everest School for their Peter Raynbird quarter-final tie against Basingstoke Athletic.

A decision they were to regret as they did not cope with the conditions and lost 5-2.

Labour's Aaron Johns missed two good chances before Athletic took the lead after 15 minutes, as Malcolm Wickens' cross led to Nathan Read netting. Soon after, Labour lost key man James McCallion to a serious looking ankle injury.

However, they hit back to level through Matt Kelly.

On the hour, Michael Borbely restored Athletic's lead and five minutes later he made it 3-1.

Labour then lost striker Kelly to injury and a rocket shot Ryan Evans added a fourth assisted by Roman Vanik.

Johns managed to pull a goal back for Labour following a ball over the top from Wayne Barlow, but Evans completed the scoring, In the semi-final they are away to the winners of AFC Berg and Bounty United.

The other quarter final played between Division One big guns it was leaders Basingstoke Royals who made their exit, beaten 2-1 by DC UK. at Old Basing Rec. Although it was goal less until the 65th minute, DC were on top and only some good saves from keeper Nick Willcock stopped Stuart Austen and Ben Nicholls scoring in the first half. DC took the lead when Austen was on the end of a Ross Harwood cross to head home.

Then10 minutes from time they added a second, after Ben Nicholls' centre led to a mistake at the back and Jamie Ballantyne scored from the edge of the box.

Royals did manage to get a consolation goal in added time when Dan Trump finished off a pass from Stephen Horton.

DC will meet the winners of the Twentyten Reserves and Hook in the semi-final.

The one league game to be played was on grass at Everest School in Division Two where bottom of the table Chineham lost 2-1 to AFC Aldermaston A. Chineham took the lead after 21 minutes when a cross from Ashley Russell led to a deflected shot by Tommy Collingridge going in.

Aldermaston drew level after 57 minutes, when an in swinging corner kick taken by Tony Johnson ended up hitting the inside of the far post on its way into the net.

Chineham had their chances through Collingridge and Elliott Forsey, but it the winner came on 78 minutes as new full back Robbie Chandler went on a good run and chipped goalkeeper Matt Jones who was off his line. The Aldermaston club have had some difficulties in raising team lately, but manager Gary Bone feels they are in a more positive position with new signings, including Kevin Hill, who assisted in this welcome victory.
