HOOK enjoyed their second success of the season, as they captured the Basingstoke A Cup with a 4-1 win over Basingstoke Athletic.

The side still have their eye on two more trophies the Division One title and the Peter Raynbird Cup in which they face Tron.

Hook were missing their regular centre backs for this game, so in came one of the youngsters Karl Perkins and James Westwood moved over to replace the missing Jon Noakes.

The makeshift defence was under some early pressure and in the opening four minutes Chris LeBrow in the Hook goal did well to punch out a header from Matt Button and the same player might have done better soon after, from a Tobie Hyde pass.

In the ninth minute, Hook suffered a further set back as they lost Phil Haig injured and was replaced by Steve Price.

LeBrow then produced a brilliant save to deny a diving header from Dale Bristow after a great centre from Button.

after 20 minutes, Athletic took the lead as a cross from Ryan Evans was handled by Aaron King and Kieran Challis scored from the penalty shot.

The lead lasted just two minutes, as a push by Lee O’Grady on Dan Mellors handed Hook a spot kick, which Andy Parker dispatched.

After this, Parker had a header cleared off the line by Barry Pullen and Bristow fired a good chance wide.

Hook took the lead two minutes before the break as James Neville nutmegged his man some 35-yards out and fired in a shot much too good for James Lounton.

After the break, Hook went close from King's volley and Dan Mellors, before a good save from LeBrow denied Evans an equaliser with a header.

Hook made it 3-1 after 82 minutes as Steve Price, who had missed a sitter a few minutes earlier, received a ball some 25 yards out and let fly with low shot, which beat goalkeeper Lounton.

Two minute before the final whistle, Hook scored a fourth from man of the match Neville, as his curling shot hit the top corner.

Alan Spacagna of Horizon Aerials Satellites who sponsored the Basingstoke A Cup presented the trophies.
