DESPITE ending the game with just eight men, Tron beat Winklebury Wizards on penalties to progress to the second round of the North Hants May Cup on Saturday.

Wizards dominated the first half and took the lead after 12 minutes, Josh Arthur converting Robbie Costen's pass.

Costen and Ben Clarke had chances to extend the lead before half-time, but Tron's problems worsened 10 minutes after the break, when Joe Harris picked up a second yellow card.

Charlie Hart soon followed him back to the changing room, sent off for violent conduct, but the nine men pulled level on 65 minutes, Ben Nicholls volleying home after good play from Duncan Leahy.

Barney Powell then saw red for Tron, but the eight men held on to take the game to a penalty shoot-out, which they won 4-1, with goalkeeper Kevin Beaumont saving three spot-kicks.

It was a good day for Overton United, with both their A and B teams making it through to the second round.

Matt Bonner converted Joe Lake's pass to put the A team ahead against AFC Berg, with Jamal Rose doubling the lead before half-time. Bonner got his second after the break and while Austin Kelly's free-kick saw Berg reduce the deficit, Charlie Palmer struck to make the final score 4-1.

Overton's B team enjoyed a 2-1 win over visiting Herriard Sports, taking the lead five minutes before half-time, when Peter Ball found the net.

Chris Dobbie levelled from the penalty spot on 70 minutes following a foul on Sam Weber, but Overton substitute Charlie Duncombe got the winner, heading Paul Eldridge's cross past the goalkeeper.

By contrast, it was a bad day for Baughurst AFC, with the Reading League side seeing both their first and reserve teams dumped out by Basingstoke and District Saturday League opposition.

Tadley Calleva A beat the first team 5-0 despite not being at full strength. A foul on Liam Belcher gave Peter White the chance to open the scoring from the penalty spot after 38 minutes, while second-half strikes from Simon Penfold and Danny Stafford had Tadley in control. White and Penfold's second goals of the game completed the scoring.

Baughurst AFC Reserves were no match for visiting Hook, who claimed a 9-1 victory.

The hosts went ahead 23 minutes in, but Pete Silvester converted Andy Haig's pass to level for Hook before half-time.

Silchester converted Stuart Bauser's cross to put Hook ahead early in the second half and Charlie Page made it 3-1 before Jack McKee hit a hat-trick, with Andy Parker and Dave Rees also finding the net.
