BASINGSTOKE Royals moved a step closer to the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division title by holding rivals Rising Sun DC to a 1-1 draw.

James Gilham gave Royals the lead from the penalty spot in the first half, but Rising Sun pulled level in the last minute, Stuart Austen firing home to earn his side a point.

Tadley Calleva A are up to third after recording their fourth win in a row, beating Bramley United 6-0.

Bramley had several good chances in the opening moments, but goalkeeper Darren Maunder kept Tadley in the game, and Stephen Burgess scored twice in the space of five minutes to put the hosts in control.

Kye Theodore’s 44th goal of the season made it 3-0 at half-time, with Lee Champion, Theodore and Gary Harper all scoring after the break.

The Division One season is drawing to an unsatisfactory conclusion. Overton United A have already been confirmed as champions and while second place is still up for grabs, it is unclear how many of the remaining games will actually be played.

Hampshire Irons, who currently occupy the runners-up spot, were awarded three points from their game against North Warnborough as their opposition could not raise a team.

It was the same story for TwentyTen, whose came against Hook Reserves was called off, and they are without a game again this week as North Warnborough have already cried off.

To make matters worse, TwentyTen’s final game of the season is also due to be against North Warnborough the following week. They will need three points to tie up second spot, which they could get by default if Warnborough concede again.
