BASINGSTOKE Royals have one hand on the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division title after beating rivals Hook to move eight points clear at the top with just seven games to play.

Steve Price scored the only goal on the hour, taking advantage after a quickly-taken free-kick caused confusion in the Hook defence.

Royals goalkeeper Richard Munday also played his part, pulling off good saves to deny Jon Noakes, Andy Parker and Arron King.

Tadley Calleva A striker Kyle Theodore bagged five more goals to help his side to an 8-6 victory over visiting Bramley United.

Michael Abbott opened the scoring for Tadley, only for Adam Bartlett to level.

Theodore scored twice to make it 3-1, and while Sam Cato replied for Bramley, Abbott’s second meant Tadley led 4-2 at half-time.

Theodore scored twice more after the break and, while Harry Elliott pulled one back, Theodore’s fifth goal made it 7-3.

Ben Squibb scored twice and Les Wood headed home to get Bramley within one goal, but Lee Champion’s strike made the game safe at 8-6.

Sherborne St John enjoyed an 11-1 victory at Welly Old Boys.

Dec Shuttleworth scored the first four, with Spencer Champ, Ibrahim Waheed and Alex Izzo also finding the net to make it 7-0 at half-time.

Tom Brickley, Izzo, Waheed and Peter Dixon had the visitors eleven up before Welly replied, Sam LeFlem chipping keeper Matt Livingstone.

Rising Sun DC will have to replay games they won against Bramley United and Welly Old Boys after it emerged that they fielded Jon Flanagan while he was under general suspension.

In addition, they have been deducted the point that they gained from drawing 4-4 with Tadley Calleva A.
