REPUBLIC of Chineham recorded their seventh consecutive victory to retain their position at the top of Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One.

It took the leaders until just before half-time to grab the lead against Basingstoke Saints – and it was a goal scored in controversial circumstances.

The ball appeared to be knocked out of the Saints keeper’s hands, but Dan Izzo’s goal was allowed to stand.

Adam Di Mambro doubled the lead early in the second half, with Joe Lawler adding a third.

Soldiers Return have won six in a row after winning 6-0 at Dayer’s Fine Foods.

Andrew Butler opened the scoring from a free-kick after just five minutes, with Alex Izzo and Butler’s secondmaking it 3-0 at the break. Jamie-Lee Galpin, Freddie Cloke and Stuart Cubbage found the net in the second half.

Nathan Rae and Giani Thomas both hit hat-tricks in Tron’s 8-3 win over Kaiser Wessex. Michael Moray and Matthew Wilson got the other Tron goals, Wilson firing in from 40 yards.

Division Two leaders FC Everest suffered their first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 away at Oakley Reserves, while Kieron Alleyne’s brace and further goals from Ashley Ridyard and Shane West saw Chineham win 4-0 at Hampshire Irons.

UWS won 5-3 at RAF Odiham Blades, while there were two controversial incidents during New Inn’s 3-2 win at North Warnborough II.

Warnborough were awarded a penalty, only for the referee to change his mind, with New Inn taking the lead in the confusion that followed.

The hosts scored either side of half-time to lead 2-1, but New Inn levelled after being awarded a controversial penalty and went on to win the game at the end of a quick breakaway.

Division Three leaders Eastrop Eagles claimed another three points, beating hosts AFC Golden Lion 4-1. Anthony Wenrup bagged a brace, with Tom Kelly and Paul Adams also finding the net. David Burt replied.

Team FC won 2-1 at Chineham Reserves, Tom Green scoring for the losers, while Chineham Athletic beat in-form DG Athletic 4-0 away.
