OVERTON United A have been crowned Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One champions with two games still to play.

A 2-1 victory over Hampshire Irons, their only real rivals, sealed the championship. Kieron Dent had Irons ahead after 20 minutes, but Overton levelled just before the break, Luke Manton firing home from 25 yards.

It was John Gurney who clinched the title for Overton with 20 minutes to go, collecting Matt Wilson’s through-ball and beating three defenders before firing home. Irons went close to levelling in the last minute, rattling the crossbar, but Overton held on to secure top spot.

Bottom side North Warnborough almost upset DJS Telecoms, but a late goal from Allan Morgan, his second of the game, gave DJS a 3-2 victory.

Morgan opened the scoring from a Paul Dolan corner after 20 minutes, but Warnborough replied in kind, Liam Martin scoring from Bradley Yates’ flag-kick to make it 1-1 at half-time.

Nick Saunders had DJS back in front early in the second half, but again the visitors levelled, Jason Williams heading home a James Newman corner. However, DJS did not give in, Morgan popping up with the winner five minutes from time.

TwentyTen had a comfortable 3-0 win over Hook Reserves. Joe Hill fired home from 25 yards to open the scoring, before making it 2-0 on 23 minutes, finding the net after Adam Elesgood played him in.

Two good saves from Hook goalkeeper Tony Foster denied Hill a first-half hat-trick, but Carl Pearson did add a third after the break. Los Wright and Dave Mohammed both went close for Hook, but they were unable to get on the scoresheet.
