BASINGSTOKE Labour Club moved to the top of Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two thanks to a 2-2 draw against visiting Basingstoke United.

The top-of-the-table clash between Bounty United and Basingstoke Athletic was called off due to a waterlogged pitch, and Labour got the point they needed to go top.

Cameron George gave the high-flyers an early lead, but Ash Pearce’s deflected strike levelled the game before half-time.

A shock looked on the cards when Joe Cook put United in front, but Labour hit back when George levelled the game late on.

Preston Candover carried out a smash-and-grab raid on visiting Overton United B.

Mark Oram scored the only goal of the game on the half-hour, heading home Kyle Buckland’s free-kick.

AFC Berg’s revival continued with a 5-3 victory over in-form Winklebury Wizards.

Goals from Matt Goodman and Kieran Alleyne had Berg two goals up and while Ryan Watts reduced the deficit, Shane West made it 3-1 at half-time.

Watts completed his hat-trick by scoring two more in the second half, but each time Wizards pulled within one goal, Berg were able to extend their lead. Kevin Beaumont made it 4-2, with Alleyne completing the scoring.

Herriard Sports beat bottom side Sherborne St John Reserves 6-4.

Adam Francis had Sports ahead from the spot early on and while Steve Price then saw his penalty saved, the same player made up for his error by levelling the scores.

However, two goals from Craig Lewington, either side of a Stuart Minton strike, had Herriard 4-1 up at half-time. Price’s second had Sherborne back in the hunt, but Sam Weber soon made it 5-2.

Strikes from Andy Carr and Conner Perrin brought the hosts within one goal of parity, but Weber’s second of the game restored a two-goal cushion for Herriard.
