BASINGSTOKE Royals became the latest team to improve their goal difference by racking up a rugby score against Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division strugglers Welly Old Boys.

Steven Price found the net eight times, Nick Willcock scored five, James Gilham got four goals, James McIntosh bagged a brace and Richard Willcock also got on the scoresheet as Royals won 22-0. Welly did find the net twice, unfortunately for own goals.

Bramley United went into their trip to Sherborne St John without a recognised goalkeeper. Full-back Tim Barnett was the man charged with wearing the gloves and he was beaten three times in the first 35 minutes, Alex Izzo scoring twice, either side of a Ibrahim Waheed strike.

Josh Arthur pulled a goal back for Bramley, but Dec Shuttleworth’s penalty had Sherborne 4-1 ahead at half-time.

Sam Cato got Bramley’s second after the break and they went in search of more goals, only to be stung by a late counter-attack, Ash Pirie making it 5-2 at full-time.

The only game in Division One saw Hampshire Irons beat visiting Hook Reserves 3-0. Jay Greene put Irons ahead just before half-time and while Dave Mohammad and Charlie Page both went close for Hook, James Arnold’s late double tied the game up.
