EARLY morning snow led to just five matches going ahead in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League, with the eagerly anticipated Premier Division clash between Basingstoke Royals and Rising Sun DC among those to fall by the wayside.

Division One leaders Overton United A did play, but they dropped two points at home to TwentyTen. Overton, who remain nine points clear at the top, had won 6-1 when the sides last met, but they found TwentyTen a much tougher nut to crack this time around.

It was the visitors who went ahead on the half-hour, Joe Hill heading home Joe Osborne's cross, but Overton levelled before half-time, Nathan Bennett lobbing TwentyTen goalkeeper Jack Nicholson after Matt Wilson seized on a defensive error.

Overton had the better of the second half, but chances were few and far between and there was no further scoring.

It took a mammoth effort from groundsman Paul Evans to get DJS Telecoms' home game against Hook Reserves on. Evans began work on the Silchester pitch at 7am, clearing the lines of snow - but his efforts were rewarded with a 4-1 win for the home side.

Danny Dedman put DJS ahead from George Lagden's cross but Hook threatened, with home goalkeeper Chris Hobson pulling off several good saves. However, Lagden got the second to make it 2-0 at half-time.

Hook's David Mahamud pulled a goal back just before the hour, heading home after Jack McKee's shot was blocked, but Lagden beat the offside trap to make it 3-1 soon after.

A goal-line clearance prevented Mahamud getting his second of the game and DJS wrapped up the scoring when Lee Neal set up Allan Morgan to make it 4-1.
