DESPITE having a terrible record in the Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division, Welly Old Boys refused to take a day off last weekend.

They were due to travel to Rising Sun DC, but when the Sherborne Road pitch was ruled unfit, it looked like the game would have to be rescheduled.

Welly came to the rescue, offering to play the game on their home pitch in Newfound, but it did them little good, Rising Sun emerging 17-0 winners.

Lee Chambers scored five times, with Joe Harris bagging a hat-trick. Shaun Searle, Ben Vine and Micky Thomas all netted twice, with Stuart Austen, Ben Nicholls and Richard Kalwarczyk also on the scoresheet.

Welly manager Graham Jenkins is determined to keep the club going, but is in desperate need of players, particularly a goalkeeper, following the departure of Gavin Alexander to Winklebury Wizards.

Anyone interested in joining should contact Jenkins on 01256 397770 or 07768 091896.

Overton United A remain top of Division One following a 5-1 win away at Hook Reserves.

Siyanni Thomas gave Overton an early lead after a shot by Nathan Bennis was parried by the goalkeeper in the fifth minute, but Hook replied through Jack McKee.

McKee missed a great chance to put his side in front soon after and it was Overton who went in at the break ahead instead, Jesse Todd firing home after being put through by John Gurney.

Bennis scored the third, Todd made it 4-1 after being set up by John Sayers and Thomas completed the scoring with his second after more good play from Bennis.
