BRAMLEY United suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat on the Isle of Wight in the only game involving Basingstoke and District Saturday League sides to survive the wet weather.

The pitch at Binstead and Cob’s ground was badly waterlogged, but as Bramley had made the trip across the Solent, the referee allowed the Hampshire A Cup tie to go ahead.

Bramley took an early lead when an inswinging corner from Aaron Burt ended up in the net, but the hosts levelled with 15 minutes on the clock.

The visitors dominated the rest of the half, with Greg Arthur hitting the crossbar, another shot being hacked off the line and Les Woods seeing his effort get stuck in the mud before it could cross the line.

Binstead grabbed the lead with 15 minutes to play, but Bramley levelled almost immediately, Adam Bartlett beating the home goalkeeper with a cross-shot to force penalties.

Burt and Sam Cato converted their spot-kicks, but the other three were missed and Binstead won the shoot-out 4-2.
