WINKLEBURY Wizards maintained their unbeaten record in Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division Two with a 4-3 win over visiting Overton United B.

Hugo Carlos gave the hosts an early lead but Overton hit back strongly, Dave Pyle scoring twice to put them 2-1 up. Scotty Winterbourne levelled for Winklebury, but it was the visitors who led at the break thanks to Matt Bonner’s header.

Carlos curled in a free-kick to haul Winklebury level again after half-time and Daniel Goodyear snatched a winning goal in the closing stages.

Bounty United suffered a surprise defeat, slipping to second in the table after being beaten 4-1 by Basingstoke Labour Club.

Matt Kelly’s penalty had Labour in front at half-time and Cameron George doubled their lead early in the second period. Jordan Willis reduced the arrears, but further goals from Mike Hill and substitute Martin Willows sewed up the points for Labour.

The good news for Bounty is that their only previous defeat, a 7-4 loss to Overton, will not stand. Overton have been found guilty of fielding an ineligible player and the match will be replayed.

Basingstoke Athletic replaced Bounty at the top of the table thanks to a 5-1 win at Herriard Sports.

Goals from Dale Bristow and Tobie Hyde had Athletic in control at the break, with Dave Trevelion making it 3-0 early in the second half. Herriard, who hit the woodwork three times during the game, pulled one back, but further goals from Matt Button and James Louton completed the scoring.

AFC Aldermaston A extended their winning streak to three games with a 2-1 win over Sherborne St John Reserves. Liam Belcher had Aldermaston ahead and while James Price levelled, Tony Johnson’s free-kick won the game with five minutes remaining.

Basingstoke United claimed a comfortable 4-0 victory over AFC Berg. James Lucas had United ahead before a quick-fire hat-trick from substitute Ash Pearce, who also missed a penalty, made the game safe.
