BASINGSTOKE and District Saturday League clubs endured mixed fortunes in the third round of the Hampshire A Cup, with three progressing but four making their exit.

Bramley beat visiting Lowford 3-0 to reach the next round, with all of their goals scored in the first 35 minutes. Sam Cato netted twice, with Josh Arthur adding the third.

Basingstoke Royals needed a penalty shoot-out to beat visiting Isle of Wight outfit Bembridge. Steve Horton and James McIntosh seemed to have Royals in control, but the visitors scored twice in the second half to force a shoot-out, which Royals won 5-4 thanks to a fine save from goalkeeper Richard Munday.

Sherborne St John Reserves are also through, at the expense of Hook Reserves, who were unable to raise a side.

It was not such good news for Rising Sun DC, who lost 4-3 away at AFC Botley.

The visitors went behind early on, but levelled through Shaun Searle after 66 minutes and went ahead through Josh Flanagan soon after. Botley replied with three quick goals and while Michael Thomas pulled one back five minutes from time, Rising Sun were unable to get on terms.

Hampshire Irons lost 5-3 to AFC Wolversdene despite a brace from Olly Owen and Jay Greene’s strike, while Hook lost 2-0 at Rushmore Community, with Andy Parker missing a penalty.

TwentyTen were beaten on penalties by North Berks League outfit Burghclere after a 2-2 draw.

Jordan Wainwright put TwentyTen ahead early on, but Burghclere levelled with 10 minutes to go. Wainwright’s second of the game looked to be the winner, but an added-time own goal from Alan Spacagna meant that the game went to penalties and Burghclere won 4-3 in sudden death.

Basingtoke Athletic reached the quarter-finals of the Hampshire B Cup with a 4-0 win over visiting Hythe Aztecs. Nathan Read and Matt Stillwell had Athletic two up before the break, with Matt Button and Dale Bristow completing the scoring in the second half.
