BASINGSTOKE and District Saturday League Premier Division leaders Hook reached the quarter-finals of the Basingstoke A Cup with a 3-0 victory over Bramley United, but it was far from plain sailing.
Bramley had the chance to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty after 10 minutes for a foul on Sam Cato, but his penalty was well saved by Greg Archer in the Hook goal.
Hook took full advantage, scoring three times before the 25th minute to tie up the game. Andy Parker headed them ahead, before further goals from Tim Hearson and Jake Lear put them in control.
Bramley continued to cause problems, hitting the crossbar and forcing Archer into some good saves, but they were unable to get on the scoresheet.
Basingstoke Royals beat Welly Old Boys 11-0 in the only Premier Division game of the day. Steve Horton scored a hat-trick, James Gilham and Scott Harvey bagged a brace, with Richard Willcock, James McIntosh, Stu Urquhart and Steve Stansbridge also finding the net.
