ONLY two of the six Basingstoke clubs in Hampshire B Cup action on Saturday were able to reach the second round.

A Hugo Carlos hat-trick helped Winklebury Wizards to a 9-0 victory away at Isle of Wight side Kyngs Towne. Ben Clarke and Scotty Winterbourne both netted twice, with Josh Dickens and Robson Pereira the other scorers.

Basingstoke Athletic beat AFC Hiltingbury Reserves 3-0. The visitors dominated throughout, with Sam Patterson scoring two in the first half and Dale Bristow adding a third after the break.

Labour Club suffered a disappointing 4-3 defeat away at Hythe Aztecs.

Labour went behind but Jack Mead levelled before half-time. They fell behind twice more in the second half, but Mike Hill and Ryan Willows equalised on both occasions, only for Hyde to grab a late winner.

Overton United B were made to pay for failing to take their chances as they went down 2-1 at home to Southampton side Shield FC.

The visitors went ahead on the half-hour and several opportunities were missed before Neil Ryan levelled. However, Shield regained the lead on the hour and despite dominating, Overton could not get on terms.

Sherborne St John Reserves were beaten 5-1 at home by Crofton Saints Under-21s. Conner Perrin netted to make it 1-1 after 25 minutes but they trailed 2-1 at the break and conceded four further goals in the second half.

Preston Candover are also out after being beaten 3-1 by Ropley.

There was a top-of-the-table clash in Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One, with DJS Telecoms and Hampshire Irons drawing 3-3.

Lee Neal set up Ashley Elward to open the scoring for DJS after seven minutes, but Alex Brown levelled from Olly Owen’s pass and the same player scored again to put Irons 2-1 up at the break.

Brown completed his hat-trick early in the second half, but Nick Saunders got DJS back into the game and Neal won his side a point with two minutes to go.

Overton United A took the opportunity to go to the top of the table with a 6-1 win over North Warnborough. Nathan Beenis had Overton narrowly ahead at the break before going on to complete his hat-trick, while Gus Reus, Charlie Palmer and Jesse Todd were their other scorers. Jason Williams was the Warnborough scorer.

A hat-trick from Jack McKee earned Hook Reserves a 3-2 win over Twentyten. Goals from Carl Pearson and Olly Lacey had Twentyten in control, but McKee scored three times in the final 16 minutes to turn the game on its head.

The Premier Division game between Welly Old Boys and Tadley Calleva A was called off as Welly were unable to raise a team.

BOUNTY United enjoyed a comfortable victory over hosts AFC Aldermaston A in Division Two.

Paul Clarke put Bounty ahead early on and Matt Love doubled the lead. Paul Mellor pulled one back for the hosts but Mitchell Stokes made it 3-1 from Paul Barton’s cross on the stroke of half-time.

Love’s second goal made it 4-1 and Aldermaston were only able to pull one back, Tommy James firing home with a minute to go.

Herriard Sports enjoyed their first win of the season, beating AFC Berg 4-3. Karl Buttle’s double had Herriard two goals to the good, but goals from Spencer Charlton and Shane West had Berg level.

When Kevin Beaumont put Berg 3-2 ahead from a free-kick, it seemed that the comeback was complete. However, substitute-less Berg were then reduced to 10 men due to an injury to Spencer Kirby and Herriard took advantage.

Buttle’s hat-trick strike levelled things again and Sam Weber’s late breakaway goal won the game for the home side.
