AFC Berg needed a penalty shoot-out to beat Sherborne St John Reserves and progress past the first preliminary round of the Peter Raynbird Cup on Saturday.

Connor Perrin put Sherborne ahead on 20 minutes and it was a lead they held on to until the second half, when Kevin Beaumont converted a penalty to tie the game.

Kevin Allayne put Berg ahead in extra-time, but Ben Harman levelled to take the game to penalties.

Berg were ruthless, scoring all of their spot-kicks to win the shoot-out 5-3.

Kyle Buckland found the net seven times in Preston Candover’s 10-3 victory over Overton United B.

Candover led 4-1 at the break and there was no let-up in the second half.

Jamie Perryman, Rob Stait and Richard Spiers were the other Candover scorers, while Sammy Aldoori, Damien Trendall and Ryan Watts found the net for Overton.

Winklebury Wizards recovered from two goals down to beat Basingstoke Athletic 4-3.

Lee O’Grady and Dale Bristow had Athletic ahead at half-time but they lost Mark Allen to a red card after the break and the Wizards pulled level thanks to goals from Scotty Winterbourne and Matt Lowe.

Winklebury then went ahead and while Matt Stillwell levelled the game at 3-3, Lowe’s long-distance strike proved to be the winner.

Basingstoke United were too strong for Labour Club, beating their visitors 8-0. Tom Hartley and Ash Pearce both hit hat-tricks, with Dan Southgate and Sam Barton the other United scorers.

Bounty United beat Herriard Sports 4-3 in a tight encounter at Castle Field.

Matt Love opened the scoring for Bounty but Sam Weber’s strike ensured that there was nothing between the sides at half-time.

After the break, Herriard went ahead through Mike Hickie, but Paul Barton scored twice to put Bounty back in front and Craig Williamson’s free-kick gave them a two-goal cushion. They needed it as well, with Stuart Minton’s strike setting up a nervous finale.

Basingstoke Royals’ Basingstoke and District Saturday League Premier Division title hopes suffered a setback as they threw away a two-goal lead to draw with 10-man Bramley United.

Tommy Smith put Royals ahead before half-time and James Gilham doubled the advantage on the hour, while Bramley’s task was made even harder when Matt Harris was sent off for a late tackle. However, the visitors pulled a goal back through Adam Bartlett on 88 minutes and they grabbed a point with a dramatic last-gasp equaliser, Sam Cato meeting Adam Burt’s centre with an overhead kick.

Welly Old Boys suffered another heavy defeat, going down 9-0 at Hook.

Andy Haig opened the scoring, Aaron King doubled the lead and Andy Parker made it 3-0 at half-time. Six more goals followed after the break, with Haig, King and Parker all adding to their tally. James Wilstead, Peter Silvester and Stuart Bowser were the other scorers.

Ben Nicholls gave Rising Sun DC an early lead against an under-strength Sherborne St John side, with Lee Chambers and Sam Nicholls also netting as they raced into a 3-0 lead.

Olly Burgan reduced the arrears but Lorne Howard’s header gave the hosts a 4-1 lead at the break.

Alex Izzo’s strike and a Matt Livingstone penalty had Sherborne back in the game, but Ben Nicholls and Ben Vine restored Rising Sun’s three-goal lead. Rory Hatherwell pulled another back for the visitors but they could not get on terms, with Livingstone seeing his late penalty saved by Matt Powell as Rising Sun held on to win 6-4.

Overton United A are top of Division One on goal difference after beating Hook Reserves 6-1.

Siyanni Thomas gave them an early lead and while they were forced to use all three substitutes in the first 20 minutes, further goals from Nathan Beenis and Charlie Palmer had Overton three goals ahead.

Jack McKee pulled one back for Hook before the break, but second-half goals from Beenis, Gus Reis and Thomas completed the victory.

DJS Telecoms sit second after beating North Warnborough 2014 6-2. Ryan Thorpe gave Warnborough an early lead that they held until just after the break, when Mark Howell levelled.

The same player scored again to put DJS in front and while Thorpe equalised for Warnborough, further strikes from Peter Lomax, Lee Neal, Reece Chapman and Ashley Elward completed a big win for the high-flyers.

Twentyten beat Hampshire Irons 2-1 in a close encounter, with Joe Hill getting the winner two minutes from time. Hill had given his side the lead in the first half, but a Craig Hopper own-goal levelled the scores before the break.

The game looked set to end in a draw when Twentyten’s Frank Spacagna hit the crossbar from the penalty spot, but Hill came up with the late winner.
