WAYNE Poole’s scored a super 40-yard free-kick as Kaiser Wessex opened with a 3-2 victory over Basingstoke Saints, in the Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One at their new Preston Candover home, writes Tony Spencer.

Jack Barrett headed Kaiser into an early lead, but Saints hit back to lead 2-1 at half-time thanks to Liam James.

Scott Harvey's strike levelled the scores and then with two minutes Poole scored the winner.

Promoted Division Two champions, Lamb Inn, launched their top flight campaign with a remarkable 5-4 home win over last season’s runners-up Tron FC.

Chineham Reserves were narrowly beaten 5-4 by visitors Team FC. Paul Deakin, Joe Marsh, Carl Buckland and Tyler Andrews scored for Chineham.

Kirk Good netted for DG Athletic as they lost their opening game 3-1 at home to Chineham Athletic.
