SKEWERS’ Basingstoke and District Saturday League Division One title party was put on hold by Tadley Calleva A, a late equaliser denying the leaders the win they needed to secure top spot.

Kyle Theodore had Tadley ahead at half-time, but a goal from Luke Manton and Simon Jane’s penalty had Skewers ahead after the break.

Simon Penfold got Tadley back on terms but it seemed like Sam Cato had secured the title for Skewers when he made it 3-2. However, Theodore’s second goal of the game, from the penalty spot, spoiled the party.

Skewers had another chance to secure the title last night, when they took on second-placed Bramley United.

They kept their title hopes alive with a 6-0 victory over Overton United A.

Lewis Holloway, Harry Elliott and Phil Mark had Bramley three up at the break, while Overton failed to make the most of a chance to get back into the game when Wayne Barlow’s penalty was saved by Jake Lear.

Josh Harper got Bramley’s fourth, with Mark and Holloway getting their second goals of the game to complete the scoring.
