BASINGSTOKE and District League Premier Division leaders Welly Old Boys remain unbeaten after a 2-2 draw with visiting Basingstoke Royals.

It was visitors who took the lead from Nick Willcock, but James McIntosh equalised, before Welly’s Ryan Evans was sent-off on the half hour for deliberate hand ball.

Royals regained their lead through Tom Smith on the hour and also hit the bar, but Welly levelled thanks to Sam Nicholls.

Hook is still in with a shout for the title after they beat visiting strugglers Popley 6-0. The visitors called Lee Austen out of retirement to play in a goal, as regular Andy Grice was unavailable. Austen’s first act was to give away a penalty which Tom Davies converted.

The same player added a second, and it was 3-0 at the break after Charlie Page scored.

Hook added three more goals in the second-half, thanks to Andy Parker, Davies and Dan Frump.

With Herriard Sports unable to raise a team to play Hook Reserves, the only match played in Division One was at Berrydown, where Overton United drew 1-1 with Pure Spartan. Russell Williams gave Pure the lead, only for Overton to equalise with five minutes from time thanks to Wayne Barlow.
