READING and Southampton will both be hoping to make progress in next season's Carling Cup after being drawn against lower-league opposition.
The Royals, who are back in the first round following their relegation from the Premier League, will travel to east London for a tie with Dagenham and Redbridge.
Southampton face a fellow south coast club when they make the trip to play Exeter City, who were promoted back into the Football League last month.
