Town boss wants to see improvement

JASON Bristow says he is sick of making excuses for his Basingstoke Town side.

Excluding the Hampshire Cup win at Farnborough, Town have won just two of their last eight games, a run that has seen them slip to 15th in the Blue Square Bet South table, just two points above the relegation zone.

They have been the better side and had chances to win several of those games, including Saturday’s defeat at the hands of Hampshire rivals Havant and Waterlooville – but that is of little comfort to Bristow.

“The excuses are wearing thin now,” he said. “Something has got to be done. We are 11 or 12 games in and we have to get three points on the board very soon.

“We have got the players to turn it around but at the moment it is not happening for us. We were nowhere near good enough in the second half. We were naïve and left ourselves open at the back too often.

“One thing we need to look at are the goals we are conceding because we seem to have to score two or three goals to win games at the moment. We have got to go back to basics and work hard.”
