Republic of Chineham stay top of Sunday League after win

REPUBLIC of Chineham retained their place at the top of Basingstoke and District Sunday League Division One by romping to a 7-1 victory at home to Basingstoke Saints.

Chineham started slowly, leading by just a single goal at the end of a first half played in the pouring rain, but Saints lost a player through injury and the hosts opened the floodgates.

Substitute Ryan Stephens topped the scoresheet with four goals, including a penalty, Ross Cooper netted a goal in each half and Jack Peckham also scored for Republic. Sean McKenna attempted to stem the tide with a consolation for Saints.
