AC MARSTONS may languish at the foot of division one, with only one win to their name, but they relish cup football and came back from behind to ease into the semi-finals of the Andover Presidents Cup on Sunday.
It was their opponents Basingstoke Sports and Social who took the lead 10 minutes before the break, with an Andrew Butler tap-in from Jamie Gulpin’s cross.
However, the home side didn’t hold that slender advantage for long, with the visitors quickly equalising through Dean Frost’s strike before half-time.
Jeff Nagy edged the visitors ahead from the penalty spot early in the second half, then sealed the victory with a second goal 20 minutes from the end, ample recompense for an earlier reverse in the league.
This result was Sports and Social’s third home defeat in a row and ended AC Marstons’ dismal run of four away defeats.
In the same competition, North Warnborough were 3-1 up away at Anton Arms in Middle Wallop, but the home side managed to turn the match around in their favour to triumph 6-4. They inflicted a second away cup defeat in a row on the runaway division one leaders.
