BASINGSTOKE Town Ladies were knocked out of the Hampshire Women’s Challenge Cup at the semi-final stage, losing 3-0 at home to Havant and Waterlooville on Sunday.
Havant play their football two divisions above Town and they had the better of the early stages, putting the home defence under plenty of pressure and hitting the woodwork 26 minutes in.
They finally took the lead 34 minutes in, building down the left before finding the net from close range. Disaster followed for Town a minute later as the visitors claimed a second goal but they were able to compose themselves and had a couple of decent chances before the break.
Basingstoke started the second half well and went close to pulling a goal back six minutes in, Justine Mosley seeing her curling effort brilliantly saved by the visiting ’keeper.
Town ’keeper Becky Power then produced a fine save to keep Havant out but was unable to stop the visitors making the game safe with a headed goal just after the hour.
Power then produced two more close-range saves to stop the visitors further extending the lead.
The Ladies return to league action on Sunday, when they travel to Woodley Saints.
