Bryant happy with Town return

MITCHELL Bryant is glad to be back at Basingstoke and would be happy to stay at the Camrose until the end of the season.

The striker began a second spell on loan from Reading in early December, having scored eight goals in a 16-game stay at the club last season.

Having endured a difficult month at Town's Blue Square South rivals Woking earlier this season, Bryant was delighted to be offered the chance to return to Basingstoke and would like to remain at the club beyond the visit of Staines on Saturday, when his current deal is due to expire.

"I enjoy it at Basingstoke and would like to extend my stay, possibly until the end of the season," he said. "This season has been a bit up and down but football is like that and it has been good to come back here, where I did well last year, and get some games under my belt.

"I am keen to show what I can do because my contract at Reading is up in the summer. I'm not sure I will be staying on there so I have plenty to prove."

Bryant, who is 19 and started out as a trainee at Manchester United before moving to the Madejski in 2008, has made a decent impact in his latest spell at Basingstoke.

He has started all five league games since his arrival and broke his goalscoring duck last weekend, producing a tidy finish to open the scoring at Chelmsford.

"I was pleased with the goal because it had been a long time coming," he said. "It was nice to get on the scoresheet and hopefully there are more to come.

"It was a good win considering where Chelmsford are in the league and the fact that we were away from home. We need all of the wins we can get at the moment so to turn things around was very good."

In-form Staines will provide Town with tough opposition at the Camrose on Saturday but Bryant believes that another win is achievable.

"It will be another tough test and they are a good team but we need to get right mentally and we will do well," he said. "Another goal or assist would be nice but I want to win the game first and foremost.

"We have to build on last week and make sure we are right mentally. If we do that then we are a match for anyone."
