BASINGSTOKE Town suffered another away defeat, this time beaten 4-1 at Hereford, as they were unable to dent the Bulls’ promotion hopes.

It started so well for the visitors, as Dan Bayliss returned a clearance from goalkeeper Martin Horsell over his head for the opening goal after four minutes.

This stunned most of the home crowd of nearly 2,800, but they were soon cheering again, as 13 minutes later Hereford levelled things.

A corner from Eliot Richards was planted into the net by the head of former Basingstoke Town player Jack Deaman.

The home side took the lead just after the half hour mark, as Keyon Reffel met a great cross from Jimmy Oates.

The Bulls then added a third two minutes before the interval from John Mills.

The second half saw the home side continue to dominate and they added a fourth goal on 73 minutes, as Mills again was able to slot home from inside the six-yard area.

The loss saw Town slip to 19th in the table and they will hope to get back to winning ways on Tuesday night (7.45pm), when Stratford are the visitors to the Camrose.

They are currently four places and five points above Basingstoke.
