WHITCHURCH boss Carl Bennett was furious with the officials as he saw his side lose 4-1 at Romsey, after having a man sent-off after 25 minutes.

This decision was one of a number which left Bennett a very frustrated man.

Having weathered an early storm from Romsey in the first 20 minutes, the Jam Boys took the lead as a ball over the top of the home defence led to Jack Ormiston scoring.

Then on the 25 minute mark, Kieran Maylen went in for a tackle and won the ball, but to the horror of the Whitchurch boss he was given a straight red.

Speaking about the incident Bennett said: “It is a tough tackle, but he has won the ball, their guy has gone down rolling around on the floor. It was only a yellow card at best and their player has got up an winked at me. after Kieran has been sent-off."

Whitchurch still led 1-0 at the break, but soon after the interval Romsey equalised from the penalty spot, which again left Bennett furious.

The manager explained: “The ball had gone over the byline, but the linesman did not flag, they put in a cross and one of their players has dived in the box and won a penalty. My players never touched him.”

Straight from the kick-off Whitchurch headed the ball out of play and his team was given the throw in as the official once again got it wrong. Having levelled things, Romsey went onto win the game 4-1.

Bennett said: “Romsey in the end deserved the win, but I cannot fault my players as they did all they could, but decisions have gone against in this one and have cost us dear.”

This weekend, Whitchurch are on their travels again to Folland Sports in the Wessex League Division One.

Bennett will be without suspended Maylen as well as Josh Chandler who due to health issues needs an operation before he can continue to play.

Bennett said: “All at the club wish Josh all the best, as this has happened so quickly and we look forward to seeing back in action.”
