HARTLEY Wintney made club history as they booked their place in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy, with a very assured performance against Swindon Supermarine, beating them 3-0.

The Row had good support with around 50 making the trip to Swindon, as the Row faced a side doing well in Southern League Division One West.

Steve Noakes was welcomed back in defence and a debut appearance was given to well known local professional footballer Rowan Vine in attack.

Marine started strongly and soon Hartley were on the back foot with winger Ryan Campbell looking dangerous on the left wing.

On five minutes Campbell managed to get to the goal line and his fizzed cross went low across the face of the goal but no takers.

Hartley settled and on 14 minutes they had their first effort. Good interplay between Jack French and Rowen Vine saw the latter’s shot saved at full stretch by Josh Hill in the home goal.

A minute later, Marine’s Campbell set up Connor Thompson who shot just past the post.

On 23 minutes, Campbell had a parting shot following a good move by the home side but Paul Strudley in the home goal brought off a good save.

Two minutes later the Row took the lead. A free kick in midfield by Josh Webb was handled by a home defender in the box. Jake Baxter stepped up and scored from the resulting penalty.

The goal gave the visitors confidence and on 32 minutes good work from Jack French created a chance for Jake Baxter who shot wide.

Then a good flowing move down the left by the Row, saw Adam Everiss’ cross find Vine but his effort went over the bar. A minute before the break, Everiss broke through and managed to create a chance for Baxter, who had the ball in the net. However, the linesman flagged for offside.

Hartley almost scored with their first attack of the half. Vine and Everiss combined well and the latter’s cross saw Paul Hodges shoot just wide.

On 58 minutes, the Row put together a good move and Vine set up Everiss who brought out a good save from Josh Hill who also made a great stop from the follow up efforts for a corner.

Everiss took the kick and Vine rose highest to power his header into the net just under the crossbar.

On 62 minutes a long run from Hodges saw Webb set up and his effort was just past. However, the third goal was delayed by just three minutes.

A good move down the right involving Louie Paget, Paul Hodges and Rowan Vine set up Jack French some 25 yards from goal.

The midfielder took aim and sent a thunderbolt shot into the back of the net.

On 76 minutes, Campbell who looked dangerous all afternoon brought out a good stop from Paul Strudley. Three minutes later Rowan Vine was substituted and left the field to much applause from the Row faithful for an excellent display.

Marine pushed Joe Shephard forward and the full back headed over Joe Selam’s cross from the right on 79 minutes. Shephard again had a chance on 83 minutes from a cross by Josh Parsons but again headed over.

After the game joint manager Daniel Brownlie said: "We asked for a reaction after the Hayes loss and boy did we get one.

"An all round good performance in which every player played their part. Swindon are a good side so to come out winners in the style we did was superb, especially in their own back yard.

He added: "It was a great day, thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. We love an away day, the bus was rocking on the way home.

"Rowan Vine was superb and will prove to be a great addition to our squad. The return of Steves Noakes as well was instrumental to our win today, a solid performance."

Hartley will now be in hat on Monday and looking forward to seeing who they face in round two.

The Row are back in league action on Saturday, when they entertain Barton Rovers.
